Although we feel blessed to be invited to the Sims 3 Pets producer event in The Netherlands which will take place later today, I've heard yesterday on Twitter via other fan sites that we won't be allowed to take any pictures, nor will we be able to Tweet live during the event. I'm not happy about this, but I'm also not sure what to do or think about this. EA never informed us about this. So until I get a clear answer from EA, I will have my Tweet widget up again (will appear later today!) and we will Tweet unless it's stated clearly that we are not allowed to do so.

In all honesty though, it does not make any sense. Pretty much all the information is out there already. And it seems our country is the exception again? Well I guess we'll have to do a lot of playing in order to give you readers something new, right?

Follow us live at the Sims 3 Pets Producer Event!

A couple of weeks ago I received The Sims Medieval: Pirates & Nobles expansion pack. I was planning to write an extensive review about this expansion pack. People really seem to enjoy our reviews and previews. So why stop now? Well, I don't seem to be able to play the games. I just bump into one problem after another, making it impossible for me to even begin working on a review. I'm a bit saddened by this. So far no one has been able to help me with the issues I'm having. If I don't succeed in properly playing the game next weekend, I will not write a review. By then the buzz will already be gone and probably no one will take the time to read it. :uhm:

Earlier this month EA released a new patch for The Sims 3. However, it has come to my attention that there are several people who experience issues after this patch had been installed. So I just want to add a little disclaimer. I don't know if the patch is safe. Install at your own risk.

To install this update, please start your game and use the “Updates” tab in your Launcher.

This game update includes:

Base Game Updates

  • Mac Only: Fixes a crash issue with Nvidia GeForce 9400M and 320M graphics cards on Mac Lion OS.

Before installing an Update for The Sims 3, an Expansion Pack, or a Stuff Pack, it is a good idea to run through the following checklist to ensure your game continues to work smoothly.
If you have any questions about the below steps, please visit the Technical Support forum on the official Sims 3 community found at this URL: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/forums/show/10.page

Step 1: Disable Custom Content
Custom Content is all Sims content that did not come from an official The Sims 3 Update, The Sims 3 Store, Expansion Pack, or Stuff Pack. Custom Content is created by 3rd Party Developers that are not regulated by Electronic Arts or The Sims 3 Development Team and may not work with new updates. Custom Content may cause the game to behave unexpectedly or not function entirely.
To disable your custom content, undo whatever you did to install this content to get your game back into an unmodified state. If you placed it in a Sims 3 directory folder, move it to a new folder that is outside your Sims 3 file directory. Your Sims 3 file directory can be found using the paths listed below:

  • Windows File Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3
  • Mac File Directory: User/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims/

Once you have installed the official update you may re-enable your custom content. If you experience problems, disable it again until the 3rd party developer updates their content to work with the official Update, Expansion Pack, or Stuff Pack.

Step 2: Back Up your Save Files
It’s always a good precaution to back up your save files before installing an Expansion Pack, Update, or Stuff Pack. To do this, copy the “.sims3” folders found in the Saves folder onto your desktop or another file directory.
Your Sims 3 Saves folder can be found using the paths listed below:

  • Windows File Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves
  • Mac File Directory: User/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims/Saves

After the Update is installed, run the game to verify your saves still function correctly.

Step 3: Let the Update Complete Entirely
Updates can sometimes be rather large and may take a while to download and install completely. Cancelling the update before it has completed may cause unexpected problems, so it is always best to let it finish entirely. Do not close the Launcher until you have confirmed the update is completely installed, as this will cancel the update.

For some time the Sims are also active in the social network Facebook. EA and online games developer Playfish are working together and launched The Sims Social beginning in August 2011.
At SNW, we have already given some attention, we even created a forum for The Sims Social.
But what is The Sims Social?
The Sims Social
The Sims Social
Anyone who is even slightly Sims fanatic, wants also to learn about The Sims Social. In the past, EA has tried to offer their blockbuster online, but it wasn't a real success.
Using Facebook, with the help of Playfish, they try it again in the online gaming world. To play to The Sims Social , you obviously need a Facebook account.

Your own Sim
You start the game with creating your Sim. Just like in The Sims (PC) you can change the looks, the clothing and the name of your Sim. You can even alter his/hers character properties.
Keeping your Sims needs . The basic needs are Hunger, Hygiene, Sleep en Bladder. It's important to keep your Social and Fun level in the green.

Social
The basis of The Sims Social aims in the social field. The name already says so of course, allowing you to classify the game under the social friend games, that Facebook already knows. Of course you can play solo, but if you want to move forward, you do need your Facebook friends.
TSS
Like other social networking games you can visit with your friends, walk around their home and communicate with their Sims, as in The Sims (1, 2 or 3).
In various ways you can interact with your friends, eventually you are loved ... or rivals. The latter is something I have not tried, at first I have to find a willing victim for this Happy
All social interactions can give you all sorts of bonuses, which you can use in all kinds of drinks, tools and more.

Skills and Challenges
Besides the social part, it is also possible for your Sim to rise in level. You do this by building up Experience. For almost every action you get some points for this.
Increase faster is done by completing challenges. These can vary considerably ... of the designing of your home to flirting one of your friends.
Skills are also available. To name a few: cooking, music, artistic, writing. Again you earn, besides a skill, and Simoleons Experience.

Building and Buying
If you start with The Sims Social, you have a standard house. Room, bathroom with toilet, bed, kitchen, refrigerator, table, chair and computer. Unlike the PC Sims is not possible to build your own house, but throughout the game it will be possible to add rooms.
The interior is also to adapt, of course there is a real shop. You can pay with Simoleons, Simcash or Social points. Some items you will need the help of your friends, otherwise you can not make them.

The Sims Social Community
TSS on Facebook has its own page, where they regularly give additions to the shop or drop game tips.
The game is already a hit on Facebook, demonstrated by the number of fans of The Sims Social on Facebook. According to their count for more than 40 million people playing their online game.

We have been invited to attend The Sims 3 Pets event in The Netherlands. Today I received a mail containing more information on the exact location and which producers will be there.

The event itself will take place in the Beatrix Building in Utrecht, on Tuesday September 13th from 4:30pm - 7:30pm. Producers George Pigula and Nicola Jenkins will be present.

I'm not sure how much time we'll get to play ourselves, but we'll try obviously. And if we learn anything new, we will write another preview for you all! Also, if allowed this time, we will take pictures! :woot:
